Driving rehabilitation and training

Drive On Therapy offers occupational therapy capacity building and driving rehabilitation and training to all clients.

Occupational therapy capacity building

Whether you’re learning to drive, returning after a break, or adjusting to new equipment, our capacity building services are here to support your journey. Together, we’ll develop a personalised therapy plan that builds the skills, confidence and independence you need behind the wheel.

Completion of an occupational therapy driving assessment is essential beforehand, for us to best understand your needs to provide an appropriate service.

Vehicle modifications

Vehicle modifications assessment

Whether you are an existing driver or learning for the first time, we can provide all your driving rehabilitation in-house to build your skills to a safe licensing standard. Your capacity building will be completed in our dual controlled vehicle equipped with the necessary driving aids. We will also assist in the application for funding, where available to have your vehicle fitted with the necessary modifications.

Learning to drive assessment

We work closely with you to build your skills throughout the learning journey. This includes pre and early-driving skills as you make the move from the passenger into drivers seat, all the way through to driving independently without a support person.

We adopt a collaborative approach alongside family and informal supports, to work together as a team.

Rehabilitation and confidence building

Many people require a period of rehabilitation to regain confidence and competence on the road after an absence in driving. This absence could be due to many reasons such as recovering from a medical episode or adapting to a change in function.

Support may be needed for someone to adapt to driving to a new environment, such a new workplace or moving to a new suburb. We provide tailored capacity building to improve confidence and independence on the road.

Experienced driver refresher training

The longer we drive, we all become susceptible to habits! We may also lose track of the changes in road law that happen over the many years since first gaining our licence. We offer refresher training to experienced drivers who’d like to upskill and improve their knowledge and skills to current licensing standards.
