Why driving matters to me?

Driving has always represented much more to me than traveling from one place to another. It’s about community access, connection, and participation, the things that underpin health, well-being, and quality of life. That belief is what led me to start Drive On Therapy. I wanted to create a service that doesn’t just tick boxes, but truly supports people in navigating the complex, sometimes daunting world of driving.

My approach to therapy

Whether it’s helping someone explore vehicle modifications, guiding a client back to driving after a stroke, or supporting them through the anxiety of a driving assessment (including those difficult conversations when it’s time to stop driving), my goal has always been to bridge the gaps and demystify the process. Driving is independence, and everyone deserves clarity, compassion, and confidence in how they approach it.

Professional background

I bring over 13 years of experience as an occupational therapist, including roles as a clinical manager where I helped develop organisations and services from the ground up. Along the way, I’ve learned that while technical expertise is essential, it’s the deep understanding and genuine connection with people that makes the biggest difference. My personable approach, listening, adapting, and meeting people where they are, is at the heart of everything I do.

Beyond the therapy room

Outside of work, life is equally full and rewarding. I’m a husband and dad to two energetic boys who keep me on my toes. They’ve taught me patience, resilience, and the art of laughing at chaos. When I’m not chasing them around, you’ll find me outdoors, whether it’s playing sports, exploring nature, or just soaking up the fresh air.

What Drive On Therapy represents?

Drive On Therapy is the intersection of my professional journey and personal values: a place where expertise meets empathy, and where every client is supported not just as a driver, but as a person seeking independence, connection, and quality of life.

My path into driver rehabilitation

With over 12 years of experience as an occupational therapist, my passion for driving rehabilitation started early, back at university, when I was first introduced to adaptive driving aids for people with disabilities. Seeing the life-changing power of these tools inspired me to specialise in this field, where driving becomes a gateway to freedom and connection.

Professional background

Throughout my career, I’ve worked across aged care and community-based OT roles, and more recently supported a team of driver trained OTs as a clinical lead. These roles have shaped my understanding of how occupational therapy can empower people across all life stages to live more independently and meaningfully.

How I support clients?

Whether I’m helping someone gain their licence for the first time, with or without vehicle modifications, or supporting a return to driving after a medical condition, my focus is on building confidence and capacity. I also walk alongside clients and families through more sensitive transitions when driving is no longer recommended, ensuring those conversations are approached with compassion and respect.

What drives me?

What I love most about my work is the chance to truly connect with people. Whether it’s sharing stories with older clients or learning from the daily lives of younger ones, I’m constantly reminded how driving opens doors to community access, social connection, mental wellbeing, work and leisure. It’s about more than mobility, it’s about life.

Outside of work

I’m a wife, mother of two, and proud fur-baby mum as well. On weekends, you’ll find me park-hopping, bike-riding, or running away from waves at the beach. At home, I’m an avid binge-watcher of great TV series and a devoted fan of musical theatre — never missing a chance to catch my favourite shows live.

My path into driver rehabilitation

I finished university knowing exactly where I wanted my career to lead. I have always had a genuine passion for cars, and from early on I knew I wanted to combine that interest with my love of working with people. For me, driving represents far more than getting from one place to another. It represents independence, identity and freedom. Supporting others to gain or regain that independence felt like a natural and meaningful path.

Professional background

Throughout university, I gained experience across neurological rehabilitation, paediatrics, aged care and workers compensation. After graduating, I worked with teens and adults in the community before transitioning into driver rehabilitation, where I knew I was meant to be.

Neurological rehabilitation continues to strongly influence my practice. I value understanding how the brain, body and environment work together in driving and incorporate this perspective into every assessment and intervention. .

How I support clients

Learning to drive for the first time, or returning to driving after illness or injury, can feel overwhelming. Having personally experienced periods where I was unable to drive, I understand how significant and emotional this goal can be.

I take the time to build genuine connections with my clients, particularly young drivers, creating a safe space where they feel comfortable discussing their concerns and barriers. I also work closely with families, acknowledging their perspectives and supporting open communication throughout the process. My approach focuses on building confidence, capacity and independence in a way that feels empowering and achievable.

What drives me?

What motivates me most is being able to combine my two passions, people and transport. There is something incredibly rewarding about witnessing a client drive independently for the first time or achieve their licence.

The greatest reward, however, is seeing clients no longer need my support. Knowing they have regained their independence, and confidence is what makes this work so meaningful. Even when returning to driving is not possible, I value guiding individuals toward alternative pathways that maintain their sense of independence and connection.

Outside of work

Outside of work, I am a mum and a wife, and family is at the centre of everything I do. I am a car enthusiast through and through and can often be found around cars, whether admiring them or fixing them with my family, including the mini’s!

Why trust our team?

When it comes to driving and independence, trust is everything. That’s why all our therapists follow evidence-based frameworks and standards, including the Austroads Fitness to Drive Standards, WA Department of Transport licensing regulations, and NDIS Operational Guidelines. But more importantly, we bring honesty, empathy and a collaborative mindset to every client relationship.

We’re here to listen, to advocate, and to support, never to judge or rush. Our clients often tell us they feel seen, respected, and supported throughout their entire journey, and that’s exactly how we want it to be.

Each member of our team is highly trained in occupational therapy and driver rehabilitation, with extensive experience in working with people with disabilities and medical conditions.
